You've scanned a document, downloaded a PDF, or received a file from a colleague — and half the pages are sideways, or the whole thing is upside down. It's one of the most frustrating common document problems. The good news is it's entirely fixable in seconds, without Adobe Acrobat, without uploading your file to a server, and without any technical knowledge. Why PDF Pages End Up in the Wrong Orientation

Incorrect page orientation in PDFs is surprisingly common, and it comes from several different sources:

The Rotation Angles Explained

When rotating PDFs, you're adding to the current page rotation. Here's what each angle does:

• 90° (clockwise) — Turns a portrait page to landscape, or a sideways landscape page to portrait. Use this if your pages are rotated one quarter-turn to the left.
• 180° — Flips pages completely upside down (or right-side up if they were already upside down). Use this for pages that are fully inverted.
• 270° (counter-clockwise) — Equivalent to 90° counter-clockwise. Use this if your pages are rotated one quarter-turn to the right.

Before You Send: A Quick Orientation Checklist

• Open the rotated PDF in any viewer before sending to confirm all pages look correct
• Scroll through every page — don't assume all pages were fixed if only some were rotated
• Check that the document is still readable on mobile (portrait PDFs are much easier to read on phones than landscape ones)
